Individuals may apply online or in person. Approved recipients receive their benefits in an EBT card, which is used like an ATM card, and buy eligible food at authorized retail food stores. Alcoholic beverages, tobacco, paper products, pet food, vitamins, cosmetics, and other non-food items cannot be purchased with SNAP benefits.
